Understanding Your Chakras

Chakra_Elements-12 1.png

Balance • Align • Connect

Your Energy • Your Body • Your Balance

Within many spiritual and yogic traditions, chakras are understood as energy centers that run along the central axis of the body and influence different aspects of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual experience.

The seven primary chakras begin at the base of the spine and move upward to the crown of the head. Each is traditionally associated with a color, area of the body, emotional themes, and different stones and practices used in spiritual and energetic work.

When your energy feels balanced and flowing, you may feel more grounded, creative, confident, loving, expressive, intuitive and connected. But balance doesn't mean remaining perfectly aligned every moment of every day.

We are human, and our energy naturally shifts with us.

Relationships, grief, stress, creativity, change, joy, fear and growth can all affect how we feel. At times, you may notice that certain parts of yourself feel harder to access or need a little more attention.

You may hear this described as a chakra being blocked, closed, overactive, underactive or misaligned. Rather than seeing this as something being “wrong” with you, chakra work offers another way of looking inward:

What part of me is asking for my attention?

You might notice where you feel grounded — or where you don't. Where you're holding emotion. Where you've lost confidence. Whether you're giving more love than you allow yourself to receive. Whether you're speaking what is true for you, trusting your intuition, or feeling connected to something greater than yourself.

And because the chakras work together, what happens in one area can influence another. Your sense of safety can affect your ability to express yourself. Emotions can influence confidence. Grief can affect the heart. Fear can make intuition harder to trust.

Chakra awareness isn't about finding one “bad” chakra and fixing it.

It's about learning to listen to the relationship between your body, emotions, thoughts, energy and spirit — because sometimes the place that feels most uncomfortable is simply asking to be heard.

Your Chakras Work Together

The chakras aren't seven isolated pieces of you.

Think of them as one interconnected system.

Root: I am here.
Sacral: I feel.
Solar Plexus: I choose and act.
Heart: I love.
Throat: I express.
Third Eye: I perceive.
Crown: I connect.

And this is why chakra work can become much deeper than simply asking, “Which chakra is blocked?”

Sometimes difficulty speaking your truth begins with not feeling safe enough to speak. Sometimes difficulty opening the heart begins with grief. Sometimes confidence cannot fully return until you feel grounded again. Healing often asks us to look at the whole person rather than one isolated piece.

Gentle Ways to Work With Your Chakras

You don't need an elaborate spiritual practice to begin.
Meditation, Reiki, intentional breathing, crystals, sound, drumming, movement, journaling, visualization, nature, creative expression and simply becoming aware of your body's signals can all become part of chakra work. Most importantly, approach yourself with curiosity rather than judgment. Your energy isn't failing when something feels out of balance. It may simply be communicating. Chakra Healing at Sage Embers Soul Healing.

My approach honors the connection between mind, body, emotion, energy and spirit. Through Reiki and shamanic practices, chakra awareness may be incorporated into a session to help identify areas that feel heavy, depleted, stagnant or in need of additional attention.

The goal isn't to turn you into a perfectly balanced person. It's to help you reconnect with yourself. Listen inward. Come back into your body. Honor what you feel. Remember your own light. Energy practices are complementary wellness practices and are not substitutes for medical or mental-health diagnosis or treatment.
